Cocobration natural charcoal is hookah charcoal made of coconut shells in cube form, origin Indonesia. You choose the edge length (26, 27 or 28 mm) and the pack size (1 kg, 4 kg or 20 kg).
Natural charcoal from coconut shells
The cubes are made of 100% coconut shells. The ash content is stated as at most 4% and the carbon content as 80 to 85%. Like any natural charcoal, it does not catch fire with a lighter or a match. You need an electric charcoal burner or a gas burner.
26, 27 or 28 mm: which edge length fits?
Larger cubes have more mass: more heat per piece and a longer glow time. 26 mm is considered the all-rounder for most bowls and HMDs. 27 mm brings more heat and burning time but does not fit every compact HMD. The same applies even more to 28 mm. Before buying, hold the inside dimensions of your HMD against the edge length.
How to use Cocobration natural charcoal
- Place the charcoal burner on a fireproof, stable surface and lay the cubes on the grid so that air reaches them from below.
- Heat on the highest setting and turn the cubes with the tongs after about 5 minutes. With a gas burner, heat them from all sides and keep turning them.
- The charcoal is fully lit when it glows red all over and carries a fine grey layer of ash. On an electric burner this usually takes 8 to 10 minutes.
- Tap off excess ash briefly and place two cubes with the tongs at the edge on the aluminium foil or in the HMD, not in the middle.
- Control the heat through the number and position of the cubes. In long sessions, add fresh charcoal after about 30 to 45 minutes.
Light charcoal only in a well-ventilated place and use it only there.
Storage
Keep the charcoal dry and airtight, for example in a tin or a resealable bag, separate from the tobacco.
