The X-Schischa x Werkbund Polygon is a phunnel made of glazed stoneware with an angular outer shape, handmade in Russia. It is just over 10 cm high, about 7.5 cm wide and holds about 20 g of Virginia tobacco or 30 g of Dark Leaf.
Phunnel: one hole in the middle, tobacco in the ring
In the middle there is a raised chimney with a single hole, the tobacco sits in the ring around it. This way no molasses runs into the stem, it stays in the bowl. That makes the Polygon a good match for moist tobacco with plenty of molasses.
Angular shape, shallow bowl
On the outside the Polygon is cut into facets, hence the name. The bowl is wide and, at just over 1 cm, rather shallow, so the tobacco is spread thinly and heated evenly from above.
Built for the HMD
The rim has the standard size, common HMDs sit neatly on top. Foil works too, in that case only pierce the holes above the tobacco, not above the chimney.
Handmade with a double glaze
X-Schischa and Werkbund developed the Polygon together. Each bowl is handmade from stoneware in Russia and coated twice with a heat-resistant glaze. Tobacco residue does not stick easily to the smooth glaze. Because every piece is made by hand, each bowl is one of a kind.
How to pack the Polygon
- Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin so the molasses is evenly distributed.
- Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the ring around the chimney and do not press it down. The centre hole stays free.
- Fill to just below the rim, leave 2 to 3 mm of space to the HMD or foil.
- Put on the HMD or stretch foil tightly and pierce it only above the tobacco.
- Place the coals, heat up for a few minutes and control the heat through the vents or the position of the coals.

How do I clean the bowl?
Only once the bowl has cooled down completely, rinse it with lukewarm water. Hot ceramic does not tolerate cold shock, otherwise the glaze can crack.
