Description

5evilla Bowl Old School in beige and brown: handmade multi-hole bowl from Seville. Made of stoneware, with five holes and a standard HMD fit.

Tradi bowl with five holes

There are five holes in the floor of the reservoir, and the tobacco sits directly above them. The smoke is drawn down through the tobacco into the smoke column, which gives a direct, strong draw. Excess molasses can run through the holes into the smoke column. So pack the 5evilla loosely, not too full and not with dripping-wet tobacco.

Built for HMDs, aluminium foil works too

The rim has the standard fit for common HMDs, that is, attachments for heat regulation. With an HMD you regulate the heat via the ventilation and do not have to keep moving the charcoals. If you smoke the classic way, you stretch aluminium foil over the bowl and poke lots of small holes in it above the tobacco.

You will find more shapes among the 5evilla multi-hole bowls.

Handmade in Seville

Every 5evilla Bowl is thrown on the potter's wheel and fired in a small workshop in Seville. Colour and surface differ from model to model. Because each piece is made by hand, the shape and reservoir vary slightly from bowl to bowl, and every bowl is one of a kind. The Gitano and Milky models are made from a mixture of stoneware and red clay.

How to pack the 5evilla Bowl

  1. Briefly mix the tobacco in its tin and let very wet tobacco drain a little.
  2. Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the reservoir and do not press it down, so that the holes stay clear and the air gets through.
  3. Fill to just below the rim, so that one to two millimetres of air remain to the HMD or the foil.
  4. Fit the HMD or stretch and perforate the foil, place the charcoals on top and take your time getting it going.
  5. Regulate the heat via the ventilation or the number of charcoals. If the smoke turns harsh, take heat off.

Frequently asked questions

How much tobacco fits in the 5evilla Bowl?

Around 9 to 11 g of Virginia tobacco or 15 g of dark leaf. Exactly how much it ends up being depends on the cut, the moisture and how loosely you pack.

Does an HMD fit the 5evilla Bowl?

Yes, the rim has the standard size. Common HMDs fit, and aluminium foil works just as well.

Do the models differ?

Mainly in colour and surface. Gitano and Milky are made of stoneware with red clay. Because every bowl is thrown by hand, each piece looks a little different.

Why does molasses run into the smoke column?

With a multi-hole bowl the tobacco sits directly above the holes. If it is too wet or packed too densely, molasses drips down. If you pack loosely and let very moist tobacco drain beforehand, it stays minimal.

How do I clean the bowl?

Only once the bowl has cooled down completely do you rinse it out with lukewarm water and clear the holes. Hot ceramic cannot take a cold shock, otherwise it may crack.

Safety & legal
