The Magic Mushroom Pumpkin Squash is a phunnel bowl from Hookain's limited Spookain Edition: mushroom-shaped stoneware for standard HMDs. It has a low profile, suits smaller hookahs well and holds around 11 g of fine-cut blond leaf or 14 g of Dark Leaf.
A bright orange-red glaze with black speckles runs diagonally across the bowl and shaft, while the rest stays dark brown, unglazed stoneware with the HOOKAIN embossing. You'll find all glazes under Magic Mushroom.
Mushroom shape for smaller hookahs
A narrow shaft at the bottom, a wide bowl at the top and a curved transition in between: that is where the Magic Mushroom gets its name. Because it sits low, it also looks right on small tabletop hookahs.
Phunnel: one hole in the centre, leaf in the ring
A raised chimney with a single hole sits in the centre, and the leaf fills the ring around it. That way no juices run into the stem, and the HMD delivers the heat evenly from above.
Spanish stoneware with a Halloween look
The bowl is made from stoneware in Spain and glazed by hand. The orange-red glaze with black speckles was created for the Spookain Edition. Because the glaze flows during firing, every bowl is one of a kind.
Fits common HMDs
The rim has the standard size for chimney-style tops, so common HMDs sit on the Magic Mushroom.
How to pack the Magic Mushroom
- Briefly stir the contents of the tin so the juices are evenly distributed.
- Sprinkle the leaf loosely into the ring around the chimney without pressing it down. Keep the centre hole clear.
- For nub contact, fill up to the rim so the leaf lightly touches the nubs under the HMD. For a gap pack, leave a small space below the HMD.
- Put on the HMD, add the coals, let it heat up for a few minutes and control the heat with the vents.

How much does the Magic Mushroom hold?
Around 11 g of fine-cut blond leaf with a loose pack or 14 g of Dark Leaf. The exact amount depends on the cut, the moisture and how loosely you pack it.
Does the Magic Mushroom fit a large hookah?
Yes, like any other bowl it sits on the stem with the bowl grommet. Visually, though, the low bowl looks best on smaller hookahs.
How do I clean the bowl?
Only once the bowl has cooled down completely on the hookah, rinse it with lukewarm water. Hot ceramic cannot take a cold shock, otherwise the glaze may crack.
Why do juices seep out on the outside?
Stoneware has fine pores, and part of the bowl is unglazed. When the bowl gets hot, juices are drawn in and seep out again on the outside as it cools. With ceramic, this can never be prevented entirely.
