A push-fit system joins parts by sliding them into one another. Tightness comes not from turning but from fit, usually with the help of a rubber or silicone seal.
- Fit: the diameters of spigot and socket must match.
- Seal: a worn ring can be one cause of leaks at push-fit joints.
- Parts: typical are bowls, adapters, mouthpieces and hose connectors.
Unlike a thread, a push-fit system comes apart quickly, which makes cleaning easier. In return, small deviations in size weigh more. Compare the model details before buying, because push-fit dimensions are not uniform.
For spare parts a quick check helps: does the spigot sit in the socket without play, and does the seal close all round? Then the size usually fits as well.
