The Cosmo Bowl Asia is a multi-hole head from Cosmo Bowl made of clay in brown with a band of characters along the upper rim, handmade in Russia. It holds about 15 g of tobacco and is therefore a head for a normal session.
A shape of its own with a character relief
The Asia is a shape of its own from Cosmo Bowl. A raised band of characters runs around the top of the head; the relief is worked into the clay, not printed on. The holes are in the bottom of the tobacco chamber; there is no chimney in the middle.
What is different about a multi-hole head
The tobacco sits directly above the holes. If it is too wet or packed too firmly, molasses can run into the stem. So you pack the Asia loosely and not too full, and let very wet tobacco drain briefly first.
HMD or aluminum foil
The rim has the standard size; common HMDs and smokeboxes sit cleanly on it. Aluminum foil works as well, but then you need a little more feel for the heat. The Asia is not designed for chimney tops.
Clay with milk firing
Cosmo Bowl shapes every Asia by hand in Russia. The clay is treated with milk and fired at around 1100 °C, which densifies the surface. The head is delivered in a box reminiscent of an Asian take-away box. To seal it on the shisha you need a suitable head gasket.
How to pack the Cosmo Bowl Asia
- Stir the tobacco in the tin briefly so the molasses is evenly distributed. Let very wet tobacco drain briefly.
- Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the chamber and do not press it down. The holes in the bottom must stay free.
- With an HMD, fill to just below the rim; with aluminum foil, a little less, so that 2 to 3 mm of air remain to the foil.
- Put the HMD on or stretch the foil tight, poke many small holes and stretch it again.
- Add the charcoal, smoke for a few minutes and regulate the heat via the number and position of the coals. Add more if needed.
