The Cosmo Bowl Turkish Phunnel is a Phunnel head made of red clay in the Turkish shape, handmade in Russia. It is around 8.5 cm tall, just under 7 cm wide and holds around 12 to 17 g of tobacco.
Turkish shape, Phunnel inside
On the outside the head has the Cosmo Bowl Turkish shape: wide rim, narrow waist, wide foot. Inside it is built as a Phunnel. The Saturn model has a ribbed profile on the rim and the foot, with a smooth band in between.
Phunnel: one hole in the middle, tobacco in the ring
In the middle sits a raised chimney with a single hole, and the tobacco lies in the bowl around it. This way no molasses runs into the smoke column; it stays in the head. That is why the head also handles moist tobacco with a lot of molasses, such as dark leaf and Virginia.
HMD or aluminium foil
The rim has the standard size, so common HMDs and smokeboxes sit on it cleanly. Aluminium foil works as well. Leave some air between the tobacco and the HMD or foil.
Red clay, shaped by hand
Cosmo Bowl shapes every head by hand from red clay in Russia and fires it at around 1100 °C. The clay is thick-walled and stores heat well, so give it a few minutes when you start smoking. To seal it on the hookah you need a suitable head gasket.
How to pack the Cosmo Bowl Turkish Phunnel
- Briefly mix the tobacco in its tin so the molasses is evenly distributed.
- Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the bowl around the chimney and do not press it down. The middle hole stays free.
- With an HMD, fill to just below the rim; with aluminium foil, a little less, so that 1 to 2 mm of air remains below the foil.
- Put the HMD on or stretch aluminium foil tight, poke many small holes only over the tobacco and re-tighten so the foil is not pulled into the middle hole.
- Place the charcoal, let it burn in for a few minutes and control the heat through the number and position of the coals. Add more if needed.
