The round AO head brush has brass bristles on a wooden body and no handle. You place it in the head or on the HMD from above and clean the whole surface with a few turns.
From above instead of from the side
With a brush with a handle the bristles sit at the side, so in the head often only the tip scrapes at the bottom. The round head brush points its whole bristle surface downwards. You press it lightly into the head or onto the HMD and turn it, which loosens dried-on tobacco and burnt-on molasses.
For clay and stone heads and HMDs
The brush is intended for heads made of clay and stone and for HMD attachments. On glazed heads, use little pressure, as brass bristles can wear the glaze over time. Brass is softer than steel wire and therefore the gentler choice for metal attachments.

Frequently asked questions
When do I clean the head?
Only when it has cooled down completely. Cold clay and cold water go together, but a hot head can crack when rinsed.
Do I need a cleaner for this?
Usually not. Clay and stone heads are best cleaned just with warm water and the brush, as unglazed clay can take on the taste of cleaners.
