Gas charcoal burners
A gas charcoal burner is the right choice if you want to light natural charcoal outdoors with no power supply nearby. Instead of a heating coil and cable, you use an open flame with a matching gas cartridge. For a balcony, garden or mobile hookah setup, that is practical.

Lighting charcoal without a power socket
For your session that means you can stay with natural charcoal even when an electric burner is out of the question. The coals lie on a metal grid above the flame and are heated from below. So that they glow through evenly, turn them with the tongs while lighting.
Hookain tip: Use gas charcoal burners only outdoors on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Natural charcoal is lit on the device, not directly with a lighter.
How the gas setup works
The principle is simple: insert the cartridge, light the flame, put the coals on. Many devices resemble compact camping stoves. In this category you will find models such as the Jookah Mr. Fatman as well as matching 190 g gas cartridges.
| Point | What matters |
|---|---|
| Energy source | Gas instead of electricity, so it is mobile |
| Heat | An open flame heats the charcoal directly from below |
| Support | Metal grid for several coals at once |
| Consumption | You need a cartridge that fits the device |
What to watch outdoors
Compared with enclosed electric burners, a gas device reacts more strongly to wind. If the flame burns unsteadily, the charcoal often glows faster at the bottom than at the top. So look for a spot sheltered from the wind if you can, and turn the coals now and then so they glow through cleanly.
Handling the cartridge safely
The right handling of the cartridge matters too. Use only cartridges that fit the particular device and follow the notes for the model. Since you are working with an open flame, the burner does not belong indoors or on wobbly surfaces.
When gas is the right choice
If you mostly light charcoal at home, an electric burner is often the obvious choice. A gas charcoal burner plays to its strength when you want to stay independent of power sockets. For outdoor sessions it is a practical solution, as long as device and cartridge match and the coals are fully lit through before use.
