Description

The Magic Mushroom from Hookain is a Phunnel bowl made of glazed stoneware in a mushroom shape for standard HMDs. It is built low, fits well on smaller hookahs and holds around 11 g of Virginia tobacco or 14 to 16 g of dark leaf.

Zauron looks like embers: the rim glows in orange and yellow with red speckles, and below that the glaze turns into a dark, glossy red. The stem is unglazed in brown. You can find all glazes of this mushroom shape under Magic Mushroom.

Mushroom shape for smaller hookahs

Narrow stem at the bottom, wide reservoir at the top with a curved transition: that is how the Magic Mushroom got its name. Because it does not build tall, it also looks harmonious on small table hookahs.

Phunnel: one hole in the middle, tobacco in a ring

In the middle sits a raised chimney with a single hole, and the tobacco lies in the reservoir all around it. This way no molasses runs into the smoke column, and the HMD gives off the heat evenly from above onto the tobacco.

Stoneware from Spain, glazed

The bowl is fired in Spain from the clay of the Lit Lip Pro and then glazed. The glaze gives each model its colour, and on the smooth surface molasses and tobacco residue rinse off easily.

Fits common HMDs

The rim has the standard size for chimney toppers, and common HMDs sit on the Magic Mushroom.

How to pack the Magic Mushroom

  1. Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin so that the molasses is evenly distributed.
  2. Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the reservoir around the chimney and do not press it down. The centre hole stays free.
  3. For nub contact, fill up to the rim so that the tobacco lightly touches the nubs under the HMD. For a gap, a small space remains to the HMD.
  4. Put the HMD on, place the charcoal, get it going for a few minutes and regulate the heat via the vent.

Frequently asked questions

How much tobacco fits in the Magic Mushroom?

Around 11 g of Virginia tobacco with a loose filling or 14 to 16 g of dark leaf. Exactly how much it turns out to be depends on the cut, the moisture and how loosely you pack.

Does the Magic Mushroom fit on a large hookah?

Yes, it sits on the smoke column with the bowl grommet like any other bowl. Visually, though, the low bowl looks harmonious mainly on smaller hookahs.

Do the models differ?

Only in colour and glaze. Shape, reservoir and rim are the same on all models. Because the glaze flows during firing, every bowl looks slightly different.

How do I clean the bowl?

Only once the bowl has cooled down completely on the hookah do you rinse it out with lukewarm water. Hot ceramic cannot take a cold shock, otherwise the glaze can crack.

Why does molasses come out on the outside?

Stoneware has fine pores. When the bowl gets hot, molasses is drawn in and comes back out on the outside as it cools. The glaze slows this down, but with ceramic it can never be prevented entirely.
