The Babushka HMD by Shanti is an attachment made of V2A stainless steel in silver, black or rose gold. It measures 74 mm in diameter, is 27 mm high and offers room for more than three 26 mm charcoals. The charcoal lies in the HMD instead of on aluminium foil.
Room for long sessions
In the interior more than three 26 mm charcoals lie side by side. So you can start off strongly and do not have to keep adding charcoal in longer sessions. You regulate the heat via the number of charcoals.
Stainless steel stores heat longer
Stainless steel absorbs the heat of the charcoal more slowly than aluminium but stores it longer and gets hotter overall. That suits dark tobacco in thick-walled bowls but takes some feel: too much charcoal burns the tobacco. Start with a few charcoals and add more. The metal stays hot after the session; only handle it with tongs or a glove.
Three colours, one model
Silver, black and rose gold differ only in colour. Material, diameter, height and room for the charcoals are the same for all. Standard is stored as the HMD compatibility.
How to use the HMD
- Pack the tobacco loosely into the bowl and do not press it down.
- Place the HMD on the bowl and check that it sits firmly.
- Put two to three well-glowing charcoals in it.
- Let it warm up for three to four minutes.
- If the smoke scratches, remove a charcoal. If the heat fades, add one.
Care
Let the HMD cool down completely and clean it with warm water and a brush. The smooth surface makes this easy.
