The Plug by Hookain is a heavy Phunnel bowl made of stoneware, fired at 1250 °C, with a roughened lip for standard HMDs. It holds around 12 g of Virginia tobacco or 16 g of dark leaf; packed sparingly, 10 g is also enough.
Roughened lip for a secure HMD fit
Each The Plug has a roughened lip on the reservoir on which the HMD sits firmly. Because the stoneware is fired densely at a high temperature, molasses does not stick to the lip and wipes off easily. The rim has the standard size, common HMDs fit.
Phunnel: one hole in the middle, tobacco in a ring
In the middle sits a raised chimney with a single hole, and the tobacco lies in the reservoir all around it. This way no molasses runs into the smoke column, and the HMD passes the heat evenly onto the tobacco from above.
Stoneware from Sevilla, fired at 1250 °C
The Plug is made in a small workshop in Sevilla from high-fired stoneware. The material is very dense, the bowl is correspondingly heavy and sits solidly in the hand. The glaze gives each model its colour, on the Pussy model: pink, purple, turquoise, yellow, green, orange, beige and Stone. A silicone bowl grommet is intended for sealing on the hookah. You can find more Phunnel bowls from the house brand at Hookain Phunnel.
How to pack The Plug
- Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin so that the molasses is evenly distributed.
- Scatter the tobacco loosely into the reservoir around the chimney and do not press it down. The centre hole stays free.
- Fill to just below the lip so that the HMD does not touch the tobacco. Around 10 g is enough for a frugal session.
- Put the HMD on, place the charcoal, start smoking for a few minutes and regulate the heat via the vents.

Frequently asked questions
How much tobacco fits in The Plug?
Around 12 g of Virginia tobacco or 16 g of dark leaf. If you pack sparingly, around 10 g is also enough.
What is the difference from the POPO?
Like the POPO, The Plug is a Phunnel made of stoneware fired at 1250 °C. What is typical of The Plug is the roughened lip on which the HMD sits firmly.
Do the models differ?
Only in colour and glaze. Shape, reservoir and lip are the same on all models. Because every bowl is handmade, each piece looks slightly different.
How do I clean the bowl?
Only once the bowl on the hookah has cooled down completely do you rinse it out with lukewarm water. Hot ceramic cannot take a cold shock, otherwise the glaze can crack.
Why does molasses come out on the outside?
Ceramic has fine pores. When the bowl gets hot, molasses can soak in and come back out on the outside as it cools. High-fired stoneware and glaze slow this down, but with ceramic it can never be prevented entirely.

Angenehm handlich

Easy to pack
Read a few reviews before buying. Even packed fluffy the tobacco keeps its shape well. It’s been on my shisha for half a year now without me ever having to readjust. I was worried about an off-taste, completely unfounded. The price is fair, I think. You get a firm thumbs-up from me. 😍

HMD sits right!!
More than satisfied, honestly. A video got me curious, so I ordered one. Thanks to the raised centre spout the stem is still completely clean after roughly ten days. It works really well with a heat management device. The shipping email came on Monday, the parcel shortly after. You can feel it’s stoneware the first time you touch it. Once seasoned, it gets better with every session. It's coming along with my next order too.

Stays mild
Even if I get distracted, it won’t go sharp on me straight away. With no experience I was already having decent sessions after the second evening.
