26 mm cubes from Indonesia
Gorilla Cube is pressed from coconut shells in Indonesia. Each cube measures 26 × 26 × 26 mm; one kilo holds 64 pieces and the 20 kg box 1280. Natural charcoal contains no ignition agents: it adds no taste of its own to the bowl, but it cannot be lit with a lighter. One cube glows for around 70 minutes.

For foil, HMD and wind cover
The 26 mm cubes suit the usual setups: the classic way with foil over the bowl, with an HMD (a device that holds the coal above the bowl and spreads the heat) or under a wind cover that shields the coal on a screen above the bowl from draughts. Heat the cubes all the way through on an electric coal burner or a gas burner until you see an even, light layer of ash, turning them once. Two to three cubes are enough for a normal bowl; with an HMD you start with two and add the third once the bowl is warm.
