Lotus 1+: the Kaloud HMD
The Lotus 1+ is an HMD, short for heat management device: an attachment that sits on the bowl and holds the coals inside it. You control the heat by turning the lid. The long lever on the side makes sure you do not burn your fingers while doing so.

How to smoke with the Lotus 1+
- Bowl: Ideally a wide phunnel, a bowl with a raised centre hole. Pack it as a nub or full-contact setup, where the filling reaches the underside of the HMD and the nubs pass the heat on.
- Coals: Place two coals in the middle and the third between them and the edge.
- Warming up: Give the bowl two to three minutes to heat up.
- Adjusting: If it gets too hot after five to seven minutes, take out the edge coal or turn the lid further open.
