Aladin Coco natural charcoal are hookah cubes made of coconut shells, origin Indonesia. They are available in edge lengths of 25, 26, 27 and 28 mm, each as a 1 kg pack.
The 26 cubes are black, matt and evenly pressed, a good middle way for most bowls and HMDs. To light them you need a charcoal lighter; you can find a selection under charcoal lighters.
Which edge length fits?
The number in the name is the edge length of the cube in millimetres. With 1 kg of content, the bigger the cubes, the fewer lie in the pack. Larger cubes give off more heat per piece and glow longer. In a small bowl or under an HMD you usually need less heat; in a large bowl with a chimney top or aluminium foil it may be more. You can also control the heat by adding or removing a cube.
Natural charcoal without lighting additive
The cubes are pure natural charcoal. That means you cannot light them with a lighter; you need an electric or gas charcoal lighter. Once completely glowing through, natural charcoal is considered taste-neutral with little ash. As a guideline, suppliers state about one and a half to two hours of glow time for coconut cubes of this size, more for the larger formats. How long it lasts for you depends on heat, foil and draw.
How to use Aladin Coco
- Place the cubes with the tongs on the charcoal lighter or hold them over a gas flame.
- Let them glow through until they shimmer evenly grey-white.
- Tap off loose ash and place the cubes on foil, HMD or chimney top.
- To add more, let a new cube glow through completely beforehand.
- Only light and use charcoal with good ventilation.
Storage
Keep the cubes dry and closed.

Which size do I take for my setup?
