The AO HMD 912 in silver is a stainless steel attachment for Phunnel bowls and many multi-hole bowls. It measures around 7.4 cm in diameter, is approx. 2 cm high and weighs around 180 g. The charcoal lies in the HMD instead of on aluminium foil.
Reliefs and cut-outs
Circular reliefs run through the HMD, and cut-outs sit on the outer edge. The reliefs are meant to let the charcoal burn evenly; the heat passes the tobacco via the cut-outs. The inner diameter is approx. 6 cm.
Stainless steel stores heat longer
Stainless steel absorbs the heat of the charcoal more slowly than aluminium but stores it longer and gets hotter overall. So start with little charcoal, take your first puffs calmly and add more rather than loading it fully straight away. The metal stays hot for a long time after the session; only handle it with tongs or a glove.
Fit
The HMD is intended for Phunnel bowls and many multi-hole bowls. Whether your bowl fits depends on the diameter of its rim; the HMD measures around 7.4 cm on the outside.
How to use the HMD
- Pack the tobacco loosely into the bowl and do not press it down, leaving some distance to the rim.
- Place the HMD on the bowl.
- Put two to three well-glowing charcoals in it.
- Let it warm up for three to four minutes.
- Regulate the heat with the number of charcoals: if the smoke scratches, remove a charcoal; if the heat fades, add one.
Care
Let the HMD cool down completely and clean it with warm water and a brush. Do not use pointed objects; they scratch the surface.
