The N!CE Phunnel Angel Blue is a phunnel bowl made of stoneware from Spain. The depot holds a glaze in white with deep blue, cloudy marbling. The rim and outside are unglazed in beige, a light stone tone.
The Angel Blue glaze
The blue sits in dense clouds and small pearls on a white ground, and the pattern gets finer towards the chimney. Because the glaze flows during firing, every bowl looks a little different. The unglazed stone rim feels rough, so the HMD does not slip.
Flat depot, chimney in the middle
The N!CE is a phunnel: in the middle stands a raised chimney with a hole, and the tobacco lies in the ring around it. This keeps the molasses in the bowl and stops it running into the stem. The depot is very flat, and about 6 g of Virginia or 10 g of Dark Leaf is enough. The rim has the standard size, and common HMDs sit flush on top. How to pack the bowl
- Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the ring without pressing it down, and leave the centre hole free.
- Stop just below the rim so the HMD does not touch the tobacco.
- Put the HMD on, add the coals and get it going for a few minutes.
- If the smoke gets harsh, open the vent on the HMD or take off a coal.

Is the marbling the same on every bowl?
No. The glaze runs freely during firing, so the distribution and density of the blue change from bowl to bowl.
How do I clean the glazed bowl?
Rinse it with lukewarm water once cooled down. Never shock hot ceramic with cold water, or the glaze may crack.
