The ONMO HMD Stainless Steel Flat is the stainless steel version of the ONMO HMD with a flat bottom without bars. It replaces the aluminium foil, and the coals sit in the attachment. It has a diameter of 7.5 cm at the bottom, is 2.6 cm tall and takes two coals up to 27 mm. Depending on the light, the stainless steel surface looks silver or grey.
Flat: bottom without bars
The Flat version lacks the bars that sit at the bottom of the Classic and the aluminium HMD. As a result, the heat spreads more evenly, and depending on the packing style, spot burning occurs less often. The dimensions correspond to the other ONMO HMDs.
Stainless steel stores the heat
Stainless steel stores heat longer than aluminium and gets hotter overall. This suits moist tobaccos rich in molasses, but requires more attention to heat management, otherwise the tobacco burns. Aluminium heats up and cools down faster and is more forgiving; stainless steel needs more patience.

The bottom can be unscrewed. This makes cleaning easier.
How to use the ONMO HMD Flat
- Fill tobacco loosely into the bowl until it lightly touches the bottom of the HMD or stays just below it.
- Start with two natural coals (26 or 27 mm) and let them glow through on the coal lighter. Do not preheat the HMD itself there.
- Place the coals in the HMD and put the HMD on the bowl.
- Warm up for three to five minutes before you draw properly.
- If there is too much heat, remove or move a coal; stainless steel releases the heat slowly.
Care
Let the HMD cool down completely before you clean it. Unscrew the bottom and soak the parts in warm water; remove stubborn residue with a wire brush. Never dip it into cold water while hot.

What is the difference between Flat and Classic?
Only the underside. The Flat has no bars on the bottom, the Classic does. Dimensions and material are the same.
How many coals fit inside?
Two coals up to 27 mm. The raised rim can carry a third coal that you place upright.
Is stainless steel better than aluminium?
Not better, just different. Stainless steel holds the heat longer, while aluminium reacts faster to changes.
