Description

The Popolow by Hookain is a Phunnel bowl made of glazed stoneware for standard HMDs. It combines the design of the POPO with the shallow reservoir of the Low Load and holds up to around 13 g of Virginia tobacco or 17 g of dark leaf.

POPO design, Low Load reservoir

Popolow stands for POPO and Low Load. On the outside the bowl carries the design of the POPO, and on the inside it has a shallow reservoir based on the Low Load principle: around 6.5 cm wide and only 0.7 cm deep. Hookain states 9 to 13 g of Virginia or 14 to 17 g of dark leaf, depending on how you pack. So you get through the session with little tobacco.

Phunnel: one hole in the middle, tobacco in a ring

In the middle sits a raised chimney with a single hole, and the tobacco lies all around it in the reservoir. This way no molasses runs into the smoke column, and the HMD passes the heat evenly onto the tobacco from above.

Stoneware from Spain, fits common HMDs

The Popolow is made by hand in Spain from stoneware and glazed. The rim has the standard size, and common HMDs sit on it cleanly. A silicone grommet is provided for sealing on the hookah.

How to pack the Popolow

  1. Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin so that the molasses is evenly distributed.
  2. Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the shallow reservoir around the chimney. Do not press Virginia down, and dark leaf only lightly at most. The centre hole stays free.
  3. Fill only to just below the rim so that the HMD does not touch the tobacco.
  4. Place the HMD, add the charcoal, let it get going for a few minutes and regulate the heat via the vent.

Glazes and colours

Black Wave combines black, blue and brown. XOXO is pink, Sahne white and Snow white with sand. Night combines black with Stone; Green Water shows Stone, green, blue and turquoise.

Frequently asked questions

How much tobacco fits in the Popolow?

Up to around 13 g of Virginia tobacco or 17 g of dark leaf. If you pack more loosely or with a gap, 9 g of Virginia or 14 g of dark leaf is enough too.

What is the difference from the POPO?

The design comes from the POPO, and the reservoir is shallow like on the Low Load: around 6.5 cm wide and 0.7 cm deep.

What is the difference from the Low Load?

The reservoir principle is the same, but the Popolow takes more tobacco. The Low Load holds around 8 g, or 6 g when packed with a gap.

Do the models differ?

Only in colour and glaze. Shape, reservoir and rim are the same on all models. Because every bowl is made by hand, every piece looks slightly different.

How do I clean the bowl?

Only once the bowl on the hookah has cooled down completely do you rinse it out with lukewarm water. Hot ceramic cannot take a cold shock, otherwise the glaze can crack.
