The Shroom from Hookain is a Phunnel bowl made of stoneware for standard HMDs, handmade in Spain. Its narrow, deep reservoir holds around 12 g of Virginia tobacco or 14 g of dark leaf.
Narrow, deep reservoir
The Shroom builds its reservoir not in width but in depth. At around 12 g of Virginia or 14 g of dark leaf it is a medium-sized bowl. If you want to use even less tobacco, take the Shroom V2 Low Capacity.
Phunnel: one hole in the middle, tobacco in a ring
In the middle sits a raised chimney with a single hole, and the tobacco lies in the reservoir all around it. This way no molasses runs into the smoke column, and the HMD delivers the heat evenly from above onto the tobacco.
Black and white clay, handmade in Spain
Every Shroom is made by hand from stoneware in Spain. Depending on the model, black or white clay is used, and for the Mix Clay models both together. Because no bowl comes out of a mould, every piece turns out slightly different.
Fits common HMDs
The rim has the standard size for chimney attachments, and common HMDs sit on the Shroom. Hookain recommends a stainless steel HMD, but an aluminium one works just as well.
How to pack the Shroom
- Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin so that the molasses is evenly distributed.
- Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the reservoir around the chimney and do not press it down. The centre hole stays free.
- For nub contact, fill up to the rim so that the tobacco lightly touches the nubs under the HMD. Packed with a gap, a small space remains to the HMD.
- Put the HMD on, add the charcoal, get it going for a few minutes and regulate the heat via the vent.

How much tobacco fits in the Shroom?
Around 12 g of Virginia tobacco or 14 g of dark leaf. Exactly how much it ends up being depends on the cut, the moisture and how loosely you pack.
What is the difference from the Shroom V2 Low Capacity?
The V2 has a smaller reservoir for around 10 g of Virginia or 12 g of dark leaf. The first Shroom holds more and sits on common HMDs.
Do the models differ?
In clay and colour. The shape is the same for all models, but because it is handmade every bowl looks slightly different.
How do I clean the bowl?
Only once the bowl on the hookah has cooled down completely do you rinse it out with lukewarm water. Hot ceramic cannot take a cold shock and may otherwise crack.
Why does molasses leak out on the outside?
Stoneware has fine pores. When the bowl gets hot, molasses soaks in and comes back out on the outside as it cools. This can never be prevented entirely with ceramic.

hmd sitzt sauber
Seit knapp zehn Tagen rauche ich ihn nur noch mit HMD, die Kombi passt hervorragend. Für mich war Steingut ein wichtiges Kriterium, und es passt. Nach dem Bestellen ging es wirklich zackig. Einziger Minuspunkt: etwas viel Verpackungsmaterial für so eine kleine Sendung.

Keeps the stem dry
I can pass this recommendation on with a good conscience. I mostly smoke in the living room, rarely in a big group. Whatever juice there is stays up top where it belongs.

Stimmt alles
Eine Bestellung, die sich richtig angefühlt hat. Nach zwei Wochen ist er richtig eingeraucht und liefert konstant ab. Kein Eigengeschmack, nur der Tabak kommt durch. Nichts mehr hinzuzufügen.

Schnell sauber
Ich war skeptisch, jetzt bin ich es nicht mehr. Unter warmem Wasser ist er in kürzester Zeit wieder sauber. Kostet nicht die Welt und hält, was es verspricht. Wenn ich was bemängeln müsste: die Versandbestätigung kam erst am nächsten Tag. 😊

gleichmäßige wärme
bin wirklich froh, dass ich es genommen habe. wenn ich mit den jungs rauche, wird meist zweimal gebaut, da ist ein zweiter kopf praktisch. nachlegen muss ich viel seltener als mit meinem vorgänger. am montag kam die versandmail, kurz danach das paket.
