The N!CE Phunnel Green Apple Yam Yam is a phunnel bowl made of stoneware from Spain. The glaze inside the bowl is green like a sour apple, with yellow patches and speckles of purple and violet. The rim and outside are unglazed in beige, a light stone tone.
The Green Apple Yam Yam glaze
Apple green forms the base, larger yellow patches sit on top, and violet veins run in between up to the chimney. The mix looks almost speckled like a sweet. Because the colours run into each other in the kiln, the pattern is slightly different on every bowl.
Shallow bowl, chimney in the middle
The N!CE is a phunnel: in the middle stands a raised chimney with one hole, the tobacco sits in the ring around it. This keeps the molasses in the bowl so it does not run into the stem. The bowl is very shallow, about 6 g of Virginia or 10 g of Dark Leaf is enough. The rim has the standard size, common HMDs sit flush. You will find more phunnel shapes among the phunnel bowls, more glazes from the brand at N!CE.
How to pack the bowl
- Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the ring, do not press it down, leave the centre hole free.
- Stop just below the rim so the HMD does not touch the tobacco.
- Put on the HMD, place the coals and heat up for a few minutes.
- If the smoke gets harsh, open the vents on the HMD or remove a coal.

Frequently asked questions
Does the glaze rub off?
No. The colours are fired on and sealed, tobacco and molasses do not take on any colour.
Can I smoke the bowl with foil?
It is designed for the HMD. Foil works, but because the bowl is shallow the foil sits very close to the tobacco, so stretch it tightly and use little coal.
