Description

The Drip Bowl 5 Hole from Hookain is a classic multi-hole bowl made of glazed stoneware. It is around 9 cm tall and holds around 24 g of Virginia tobacco or 28 g of dark leaf, enough for a long session.

The Cool Water glaze drips over the rim at the top in turquoise, blue and light blue with streaks of green and white, while the base shows the clay in beige and grey. You can find all glazes under Drip Bowl.

Five holes, tobacco directly above them

There are five holes in the base of the reservoir, and the tobacco sits directly on them. When you draw, the heat passes down through the tobacco from above and the smoke goes down into the smoke column. This gives a direct draw. The downside: if the tobacco is too wet or the bowl too full, molasses runs down through the holes. That is why you pack loosely and let very moist tobacco drain briefly beforehand.

Aluminium foil or HMD

The Drip Bowl works best with aluminium foil. You stretch the foil over the rim and poke holes across the whole surface. If you like, you can put a chimney screen on top so that no ash falls into the holes. A standard HMD also fits on the rim.

Stoneware from Spain

The Drip Bowl is made in Spain from a mix of coarse-grained and finer clay, and glazed. The glaze gives each model its colour, and in the smooth reservoir molasses and tobacco residue come away more easily when rinsing. A silicone bowl grommet is provided for sealing on the hookah.

How to pack the Drip Bowl

  1. Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin, let very moist tobacco drain a little.
  2. Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the reservoir and do not press it down. The holes in the base need to get air.
  3. Fill to just below the rim so that the foil does not touch the tobacco.
  4. Stretch the aluminium foil tight and poke lots of small holes across the whole surface. Alternatively, fit a standard HMD.
  5. Place the charcoal on top, take your time lighting up and control the heat via the number and position of the pieces of charcoal.

Frequently asked questions

How much tobacco fits in the Drip Bowl?

Around 24 g of Virginia tobacco or 28 g of dark leaf. Exactly how much it is depends on cut, moisture and how loosely you pack.

Why does molasses run into the smoke column?

With a multi-hole bowl, the tobacco sits directly above the holes. If it is very wet or packed too densely, molasses drips down. Packing loosely, not overfilling and using a molasses catcher helps.

What is the difference to the Drip Bowl V2?

The V2 is slightly slimmer and holds around 2 g less tobacco. The five-hole design, material and origin are the same.

How do I clean the bowl?

Only once the bowl has cooled down completely, rinse it with lukewarm water and clear the holes. Hot ceramic cannot withstand thermal shock; the glaze may otherwise crack.
