The Lit Lip Large, Lit Lip XL for short, is the larger version of the Lit Lip Phunnel bowl from Hookain. The reservoir holds around 7 g more tobacco than the normal Lit Lip, around 20 to 25 g depending on the tobacco and how you pack. That is enough for long sessions with several people.
What sets the XL apart from the normal Lit Lip
The reservoir is slightly deeper, the Phunnel hole in the middle smaller and the outer walls are thinner. This way the tobacco gets the heat evenly despite the larger quantity. If you need less tobacco, go for the normal Lit Lip.
Two types of clay, glaze and roughened lip
The bowl is made in Spain from two matched types of chamotte clay and glazed. The glaze of the Fette-Q XL shows black, white, grey, blue and light blue. The lip at the top is roughened so that the HMD sits firmly and does not slip.
Fits common HMDs and aluminium foil
The rim is standard size for chimney attachments, common HMDs and chimney attachments sit on it and finish flush at the outer edge. If you prefer to smoke with aluminium foil, you stretch it directly over the rim.
How to pack the Lit Lip XL
- Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin so that the molasses is evenly distributed.
- Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the reservoir around the chimney and do not press it down. The centre hole stays free.
- Fill only to just below the lip so that the HMD does not touch the tobacco.
- Fit the HMD, place the charcoal on top and light up for a little longer than with the normal Lit Lip, because there is more tobacco in the reservoir. Control the heat via the vent.

Can I smoke the Lit Lip XL with aluminium foil?
Yes. Stretch the foil tight over the rim and poke the holes only above the tobacco, not above the chimney in the middle.
Do the colours differ?
Only in colour and glaze. Shape, reservoir and rim are the same for all colours. Because the glaze flows during firing, every bowl looks slightly different.
How do I clean the bowl?
Only once the bowl on the hookah has cooled down completely, rinse it out with lukewarm water. Hot ceramic cannot withstand thermal shock, the glaze may otherwise crack.
Why does molasses come out on the outside?
Stoneware has fine pores. When the bowl gets hot, molasses is drawn in and comes out on the outside again as it cools. The glaze slows this down, but with ceramic it can never be prevented entirely.
