The Scalar HMD is a heat management device (HMD): it sits on the bowl, carries the coals and spreads the heat through a slotted lid. Its standard fit suits common bowls. The Classic bowl adapters in silver or black connect bowl and stem, and the aluminium hose port with carbon finish has an 18/8 joint.

Yes on bowls with a regular rim, as it has a standard fit.
What do I need the Classic bowl adapter for?
It seats the bowl on the stem when the stem has an M14 x 1.0 thread or an 18/8 joint.
Do the aluminium parts get hot?
The HMD does, as it carries the coals. Only touch it with tongs or a glove while embers are on it.
