The Sweet Bowls New Turkish is a multi-hole bowl made of dark brown ceramic, handmade in Ukraine. It is a good 7 cm high, has thick walls and a flat base and holds about 15 g of tobacco.
Turkish shape with a small chamber
The New Turkish takes up the classic Turkish shape, with thick walls and a flat base. The chamber is smaller than on a standard bowl, so you need less tobacco for a session. The air is drawn straight down through the holes in the base.
Thick walls, steady heat
At the start, the thick base absorbs heat from the coals and so evens out the first phase. Later, when the coals fade, it releases the stored heat again. So give the bowl a few minutes when heating up.
What is different with a multi-hole bowl
Unlike a phunnel, there is no chimney to keep the molasses in the bowl. If the tobacco is too wet or packed too tightly, molasses can run through the holes into the stem. That is why you pack the New Turkish loosely and not too full.
Handmade in Ukraine
Sweet Bowls is a small manufacturer from Ukraine. Every bowl is shaped by hand, and small differences in shape and colour are part of it. A bowl grommet is included.
How to pack the New Turkish
- Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin so the molasses is evenly distributed. Let very wet tobacco drain briefly.
- Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the chamber and do not press it down. The holes in the base must stay free.
- With an HMD, fill to just below the rim; with foil, a little less, so that 2 to 3 mm of space to the foil remains.
- Put on the HMD or stretch the foil tight, pierce lots of small holes and tighten again.
- Place the coals, heat up calmly and control the heat via the number and position of the coals.

Not quite. Because every bowl is made by hand, shape and shade vary slightly.
How do I clean the bowl?
Only once the bowl has cooled down completely, rinse it with lukewarm water and clear the holes. Hot ceramic does not tolerate cold shock.

Almost as hoped
Close to five stars. I usually pack fluffy with not much pressure. Neutral from the start, nothing musty or dusty. My question to customer support was answered that same day. The flavour is there from the first pull, no long warm-up. I can still recommend it. Quick update after a good ten sessions: i smoked through a whole film on one fill with my brother.
