ShishaX: electric heat for your hookah, without the hype
In its own words, ShishaX built the VOLTA because something honest was missing between "hookah with charcoal" and "no hookah at all". The result is called ShishaX VOLTA, an electric hookah head that replaces the clay head and the charcoal in one device. Filling, water, base and hose stay exactly as you know them. Only the heat source is new.
The brand's tone stands out. On its own blog, ShishaX explains hookah without charcoal explicitly "without hype": it describes what changes and what stays the same. There are no grand promises there. The blog is written by CEO Kris. Along for the ride is the mascot Smokey, a yeti with orange ski goggles and the title "Chief Vibes Officer". We keep the same approach on this page and only write what's backed up.

ShishaX VOLTA: the electric hookah head from ShishaX
The ShishaX VOLTA sits where your head would normally sit: on the stem's head adapter. Instead of a clay head, foil or an HMD and glowing charcoal, a ceramic chamber with two heat zones does the work inside it. You fill about 10 g of your usual bowl filling between two metal screens, set the temperature and session length, and start preheating. After about 8 minutes the head is ready.

How the ShishaX VOLTA works
Fill the chamber
Place a lower screen in the ceramic chamber and fill in about 10 g of bowl filling loosely. Don't pack it down: the heat needs to be able to pass through the filling.
Add the screen, close the lid
Place the upper screen on top, wipe the chamber rim clean, put the chamber into the heating chamber and screw the lid on firmly.
Fit it to the hookah
Put the silicone grommet into the base cap: usually 18 mm, or 16 mm if it sits loosely. Then press the VOLTA onto the head adapter. To test, cover the top with your hand and take a draw. If you feel resistance, it's sealed.
Preheat and go
Set the duration and temperature, double-tap the power button, preheat for about 8 minutes. A double tap extends the session in 10-minute steps, up to a maximum of 150 minutes.
Two heat zones: why the ShishaX VOLTA heats from the top and the side
Charcoal only heats from above. The ShishaX VOLTA has two heat zones that work at the same time and that you set separately:
- Top (lid): radiant heat from above onto the filling, similar to charcoal, only controlled.
- Side (chamber wall): contact heat through the ceramic, which also warms the filling from the edge.
That lets you fine-tune precisely: if it tastes burnt on top, dial back the upper temperature. If it gets too hot at the edge, dial back the side. If the flavour fades towards the end, a bit more heat from the side helps. As a starting point, the manufacturer recommends 200°C in both zones, within a typical range of about 180–240°C. Adjust from there in small steps.
The ShishaX app: optional, but handy
The ShishaX VOLTA can be operated entirely on the device, with a colour display and three buttons. The ShishaX app is an extra. It needs a ShishaX account, connects via Bluetooth and, if you like, additionally over your Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz only).

Android: ShishaX app on Google Play. iPhone and iPad: according to the manufacturer, there is no dedicated iOS app. You install the free SHX Browser from the App Store and open the web app shishax.app inside it.
Charcoal or ShishaX VOLTA: the practical differences
In everyday use, it's mainly the routine that changes. The table shows the practical differences between a charcoal head and the ShishaX VOLTA.

A USB-C charger is not included.

- ShishaX VOLTA Ceramic Chambers (4-pack): 4 chambers made of glazed ceramic. Prepare one while the other is in use. You only need to replace them once they have cracks; discolouration is normal.
- ShishaX VOLTA Screens (10-pack): 5 upper and 5 lower screens, laser-cut, with a V logo. You need one upper and one lower screen per fill.

Warranty, support and downloads
Activating the manufacturer's warranty
ShishaX provides a 1-year manufacturer's warranty on the ShishaX VOLTA and 6 months on the battery, each from the date of purchase. The manufacturer's warranty only applies once you register your device on the manufacturer's portal. It's best to do this right after unboxing.
- Note the serial number. It's on the underside of the device or on the packaging. If your VOLTA is connected to the ShishaX app, you'll also find it under Device Info.
- Have your invoice ready: your invoice as a photo or PDF.
- Open portal.shishax.eu and sign in with your ShishaX account. If you don't have one yet, create it there.
- Click "+ Register Device" in the "Warranty" menu.
- Fill in the form: product, serial number, purchase date, choose "Other" under "Purchased From?", upload your invoice, add your name and address.
- Submit. ShishaX checks the registration within 1–2 working days.
Ceramic chambers, screens, brushes and tools are not covered by the manufacturer's warranty. In a warranty case, open a ticket at support.shishax.com/ticket. ShishaX then sends you return instructions; repair or replacement takes 5–10 working days according to the manufacturer.
Important: your statutory warranty against us as the seller is unaffected. It applies even without registration, and you can contact us directly at any time if there's a defect.

What is the ShishaX VOLTA?

Do I also need charcoal, a clay head or an HMD?
No. The ShishaX VOLTA is the head and the heat source in one. Fit it directly onto the head adapter, without a head, HMD or foil underneath or on top.
Will the ShishaX VOLTA fit my hookah?
On most hookahs, yes. Silicone grommets in 18 mm and 16 mm are included. The 18 mm grommet fits most stems. If it sits loosely, use the 16 mm grommet. For unusual or older models, manufacturer support can help.
What goes into the chamber, and how much?
Your usual bowl filling, about 10 g per chamber. Fill it in loosely, don't pack it down, and place it between a lower and an upper screen.
How long does preheating take?
About 8 minutes. If you don't want to wait, you can skip the preheat.
How long does the battery last, and can I smoke while it's charging?
One battery charge lasts around 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on temperature. Via USB-C pass-through, the VOLTA keeps running on the cable as long as the battery is fitted. With a second battery, you simply swap instead of waiting. The battery is fully charged after about 1 to 1.5 hours.
How long does a session last?
As long as you set it on the device. A double tap extends it in 10-minute steps, up to a maximum of 150 minutes.
What temperature should I set?
The manufacturer recommends 200°C in both zones to start with. As a guide, the range is about 180–240°C. If it tastes burnt on top, lower the upper temperature; if it gets too hot at the edge, lower the side.
Do I need the ShishaX app?
No. The ShishaX VOLTA can be operated entirely on the device. The app is optional, needs a ShishaX account and adds presets, remote preheating, live readings, LED settings and updates.
Is there an app for iPhone too?
Yes, via a workaround: on iPhone and iPad you install the SHX Browser from the App Store and open the web app shishax.app inside it. On Android you download the ShishaX app on Google Play. For Wi-Fi features, the VOLTA needs a 2.4 GHz network.
When do I replace ceramic chambers and screens?
Ceramic chambers only once they're cracked. Discolouration is normal. You need one screen on top and one below per fill. Replace screens once they're badly clogged; lightly soiled ones can be rinsed and reused.
How do I clean the ShishaX VOLTA?
Switch it off after the session and let it cool for at least 30 minutes. Then take the chamber out with tweezers, dispose of leftovers, brush the heating chamber out dry and wipe the lid dry. The device is not waterproof: never rinse it, never put it in the dishwasher. Take the battery out before a deep clean.
How do I activate the manufacturer's warranty?
Register your device with its serial number and invoice on the portal portal.shishax.eu under "Warranty" → "+ Register Device". That gives you 1 year on the device and 6 months on the battery. Your statutory warranty with us applies regardless.
