The Plug - Phunnel - Retro Blue

The Plug by Hookain is a heavy Phunnel bowl made of stoneware fired at 1250 °C, with a roughened lip for standard HMDs. It holds around 12 g of Virginia tobacco or 16 g of Dark Leaf, and packed sparingly 10 g are enough. The Retro Blue is handmade and shows blue and white splashes on a black glaze.

Roughened lip for a secure HMD fit

Every The Plug has a roughened lip on the well on which the HMD sits firmly. Because the stoneware is densely fired at high temperature, molasses does not stick to the lip and wipes off easily. The rim has the standard size, common HMDs fit.

Phunnel: one hole in the middle, tobacco in the ring

In the middle sits a raised chimney with a single hole, and the tobacco lies in the well around it. This keeps molasses from running into the smoke column, and the HMD passes the heat evenly onto the tobacco from above.

Stoneware from Spain, fired at 1250 °C

The Plug is made in Spain from high-fired stoneware and finished by hand. The material is very dense, so the bowl is correspondingly heavy and sits solidly in the hand. The glaze gives each model its color, for the Retro Blue: black with blue and white splashes, in places the dark clay stays unglazed. A silicone head gasket is intended for sealing on the shisha. How to pack The Plug

1. Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin so the molasses is evenly distributed.
2. Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the well around the chimney and do not press it down. The center hole stays free.
3. Fill up to just below the lip so the HMD does not touch the tobacco. For a sparing session, around 10 g are enough.
4. Put the HMD on, add the coals, heat for a few minutes and regulate the heat with the vents.

How much tobacco fits in The Plug?

What is the difference to the POPO?

Like the POPO, The Plug is a Phunnel made of stoneware fired at 1250 °C. What is typical for The Plug is the roughened lip on which the HMD sits firmly.

Do the models differ?

Only in color and glaze. Shape, well and lip are the same for all models. Because every bowl is made by hand, each piece looks slightly different.

How do I clean the bowl?

Only once the bowl has cooled down completely on the shisha, rinse it with lukewarm water. Hot ceramic cannot take a cold shock, and the glaze may crack otherwise.

Why does molasses come out on the outside?

Ceramic has fine pores. When the bowl gets hot, molasses can soak in and come back out on the outside as it cools. High-fired stoneware and glaze slow this down, but with ceramic it can never be prevented completely.
