Cosmo Bowls: multi-hole bowls & phunnel
Cosmo Bowl is especially known for its multi-hole bowls in the style of the Russian bowl school. Models such as Turkish, Shot, Future or Killer each set different priorities in reservoir shape and volume. There are also Phunnel variants such as HoReCa or Turkish Phunnel. The model name is therefore more important than colour or glaze alone.

Cosmo Bowls for a direct multi-hole draw and classic setups
With a multi-hole bowl, the air is drawn through openings in the base directly through the tobacco. This gives immediate feedback on fill level and heat and suits classic bowl packing well. A Phunnel, on the other hand, keeps moist molasses in the reservoir and is the calmer choice for juicy Virginia blends.
Hookain tip: Before buying, check the design and glaze of the specific Cosmo Bowl. Not every bowl in this category behaves the same with ghosting or fill quantity.
Looking at clay, glaze and reservoir shape separately
Clay stores heat and releases it to the reservoir with a delay. Wall thickness and shape influence how quickly the bowl responds. Unglazed areas can absorb molasses and hold on to flavours over time. In traditional setups this is sometimes used deliberately, but it is less convenient for frequent flavour changes.
Glazed or partly glazed models are easier to clean. Handmade ceramics can show small variations in shape and surface. What matters is that the bowl sits securely, the reservoir can be packed evenly and the holes in the base stay clear.
Packing dark blend densely in a multi-hole bowl, but keeping it permeable to air
Strong blends are often packed more densely in Cosmo multi-hole bowls than moist Virginia. Even so, fluff the tobacco up beforehand and take care not to close the holes completely. The air path should lead through the reservoir without individual areas turning into compact plugs.
Start with controlled heat. Multi-hole bowls react directly, so small changes to the charcoal position or the lid quickly make a difference. Whether an HMD or aluminium foil fits better depends on the rim and the intended setup of the specific bowl.
Practical tip: If only the top layer burns, reduce the contact or the starting heat. If the middle stays raw, check the fill height and the air path instead of immediately adding another cube.
Choosing Cosmo Turkish, Shot and Phunnel according to use
Turkish models stand for the classic multi-hole approach. Shot variants are aimed at more compact setups, while larger reservoirs can bring more tobacco and thermal reserve. A Cosmo Phunnel makes sense if you smoke moist tobacco and want to keep molasses in the bowl.
| Multi-hole bowl | Turkish, Future, Killer | classic bowl packing, direct draw with immediate feedback |
| Compact multi-hole bowl | Shot | more compact setups |
| Phunnel | HoReCa, Turkish Phunnel | moist tobacco, keeping molasses in the bowl, juicy Virginia blends |
Compare Cosmo Bowls with other bowls by design: Alpaca and Hookain Phunnel offer further reservoir shapes, and Hookain multi-hole covers direct air paths. You can then combine suitable dark blends, natural charcoal and HMDs with the chosen bowl.
With Cosmo, the model decides the bowl packing
Multi-hole for a direct draw or Phunnel for molasses control: choose the design first, then reservoir size, glaze and look. That way the bowl suits the tobacco, instead of forcing every tobacco into the same bowl.
