Description

The Lesh Lip by Hookain is a solid Phunnel bowl made of glazed stoneware for standard HMDs. It holds around 17 g of Virginia tobacco or 24 g of Dark Leaf and is built for long sessions. The glaze of the Sky Blue model shows blue, grey, light blue and white.

Large reservoir for long sessions

With up to 24 g of tobacco, the Lesh Lip has more room than the Lit Lip. According to Hookain, it therefore runs 30 to 45 minutes longer and burns through evenly after around 1 h 45 min. It also runs from 17 g, but Hookain recommends 24 g.

Phunnel: one hole in the middle, tobacco in a ring

In the middle there is a raised chimney with a single hole, and the tobacco sits in the reservoir all around it. This keeps molasses from running into the smoke column, and the HMD gives off the heat evenly from above onto the tobacco. How Phunnel, clay bowl and multi-hole bowl differ is explained in our guide to Phunnel bowls.

Fireclay, heavy and glazed several times

The bowl is handmade in Spain from a mixture of two fireclays. It is solid and heavy, is fired at a higher temperature than the Lit Lip and is glazed several times. The thick material holds the heat for a long time and evenly.

Fits common HMDs

The rim has the standard size for chimney tops, and common HMDs sit on the Lesh Lip. A silicone bowl grommet is provided for sealing it on the hookah.

How to pack the Lesh Lip

  1. Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin so that the molasses is evenly distributed.
  2. Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the reservoir around the chimney. Do not press Virginia down, and press Dark Leaf down only lightly. The centre hole stays free.
  3. Fill only to just below the rim so that the HMD does not touch the tobacco.
  4. Put the HMD on, get it going with two to three charcoals for a few minutes and regulate the heat using the vents.

Frequently asked questions

How much tobacco fits in the Lesh Lip?

Around 17 g of Virginia tobacco or 24 g of Dark Leaf. Exactly how much it ends up being depends on how loosely you pack.

What is the difference compared with the Lit Lip?

The Lesh Lip has a larger reservoir, is heavier and is made of fireclay. As a result, it runs 30 to 45 minutes longer, according to Hookain.

Do the colours differ?

Only in colour and glaze. Shape, reservoir and rim are the same for all colours. Because the glaze flows during firing, every bowl looks slightly different.

How do I clean the bowl?

Only once the bowl on the hookah has cooled down completely, rinse it out with lukewarm water. Hot ceramic cannot take a cold shock, otherwise the glaze may crack.

Why does molasses seep out on the outside?

Ceramic has fine pores. When the bowl gets hot, molasses is drawn in and comes back out on the outside as it cools. The glaze slows this down, but with ceramic it can never be prevented entirely.
